John Postava, Independent Adjuster

Statement of Interest
I am seeking a third and final term on the NACA Board of Directors because I believe I can continue to contribute meaningfully to the mission and growth of our organization. I am deeply grateful for the trust and encouragement I’ve received from my fellow Board members, our Executive Director, and the Executive Committee, and it would be an honor to continue serving alongside them. Since NACA’s early days,
I’ve been an active and devoted member—serving as a past President, current Director, and proud recipient of the Lifetime Membership Award. Over the course of more than forty years in this profession, I’ve had the privilege of working my way from a new field adjuster to the owner of an independent catastrophe adjusting firm.
Along the way, I’ve witnessed the evolution of our industry, some changes for the better, others presenting new challenges. Today, with the rapid advancement of technologies such as LiDAR measurement, satellite and drone-based imagery, artificial intelligence, and even robotics, the role of the field catastrophe adjuster faces unprecedented transformation. Yet I firmly believe that NACA has both the responsibility and the opportunity to ensure our profession remains not only relevant but indispensable to the property insurance industry.
My goal in seeking another term is simple: to continue advocating for and supporting the men and women who proudly call themselves professional catastrophe adjusters. With decades of field experience and a deep understanding of NACA’s inner workings, I hope to help guide our organization through this period of technological and professional change with integrity, collaboration, and respect for the dedicated adjusters we serve.
Biography
John Postava began his career in property and catastrophe adjusting as a college intern while attending the University of Central Florida. His first cat deployment took place during the Houston floods in Alvin, Texas, in August 1979. Upon graduating from UCF, John accepted a position as a property adjuster with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he advanced to the role of Senior Property Adjuster. Following his tenure at Fireman’s Fund, John founded his own independent adjusting firm, Apple Adjustments, which specialized in handling catastrophe and flood claims for both private insurers and the federal government.
In 1993, the firm was rebranded as SIMSOL Insurance Services (SIS). From 1993 to 2014, SIS adjusters were deployed to nearly every major catastrophe event in the United States. During Superstorm Sandy in 2012, John and his team, including over 200 adjusters, adjusted more than 25,000 flood claims on behalf of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and its Write-Your-Own (WYO) insurance carriers. In 2014, SIS was acquired by a group of investors based in Chicago.
In addition to his work in catastrophe adjusting, John co-founded SIMSOL Software, the company behind the widely used “SIMSOL for Adjusters” estimating platform. He exited the software company in 2019 for personal reasons. After a brief retirement, John returned to his roots as a 1099 field adjuster, continuing to work on flood claims across the country.
John currently resides in Winter Springs, Florida, with his wife, Jan, along with their four dogs, three cats, a turtle, a saltwater aquarium, and a variety of other pets. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, motorcycling, and target shooting. He has been an active member of the National Association of Catastrophe Adjusters (NACA) since 1983. He served as NACA President in 2014, is a lifetime member, and has completed two terms on the Board of Directors. He is currently seeking a third and final term.
"As a seasoned CAT adjuster with experience in the field and in management, I’d love to continue to support NACA’s great team and help members build rewarding careers in an industry that’s given so much to me and my family."
