Deployments can happen fast. This go-bag checklist covers the essentials catastrophe adjusters commonly need in the field—tools, safety gear, tech, and comfort items—so you can arrive prepared, stay efficient, and work safely in changing conditions.

Adjuster Deployment Go-Bag Checklist

Core field tools (your “Bully Bag”)

  • Chalk (keep a good chalk supply)

  • Shingle gauge

  • Metal gauge

  • Pitch gauge

  • Standard tape measure

  • Digital/laser tape measure (laser measure)

  • Large level

  • Moisture meter

PPE + safety must-haves

  • Cougar Paws (or other approved roofing footwear)

  • Flat-sole shoes (for when Cougar Paws aren’t needed)

  • Extra Cougar Paw soles (they wear out fast)

  • Sun visor/hat

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug spray

  • First aid kit (keep in your vehicle)

Ladder + roof access (safety-first upgrades)

  • Quality ladder setup (avoid telescoping ladders)

    • Werner/Little Giant (multi-position ladder)

    • 28' extension ladder

  • Ladder lock

  • Pitch hopper

Tech, power, and connectivity

  • Laptop/computer that can truly handle Xactimate

  • Chargers (for everything)

  • Extra batteries (for everything you rely on)

  • WiFi jet pack / hotspot

  • If your vehicle has a built-in modem, activate it (backup internet when hotel/RV park service is out)

  • Road map/atlas (for areas with limited cell towers)

  • Power inverter (25 bucks on Amazon) for doing claims in your car so you can plug in your laptop or equipment and charge it

  • Vehicle readiness + deployment prep

  • Minimum 2 cases of water (stay stocked; rotate inventory at home)

  • Portable air compressor (recommend a reliable unit like Viair or a quality 12V option)

  • Keep your vehicle deployment-ready:

    • Tires in good condition

    • Maintenance up to date

    • Basic emergency supplies stocked

“Two is one, one is none” backups (pro tip)

  • Buy duplicates of the items you depend on

    • Backup phone

    • Backup camera

    • Spare chargers/batteries

    • (Optional) second laptop kept synced, if you can swing it

Optional / nice-to-haves

  • Survival handbook / basic preparedness guide (for long outages or remote areas)

  • Waterproof shoes
  • Neck fan especially in southern states.
